Bio

I relocated to the Seattle area from Washington, DC about 8 years ago. Gosh, how time flies. A great city, Seattle! The rain really isn’t that bad. Shhhh… don’t tell anyone. Originally from North Carolina but raised in Kansas City, I spent many years as an educator and I still teach the occasional workshop and mentor private students today. But after teaching, formally, for 14 years at a lovely private school in Kansas City, I decided that full-time work in theatre, film, and television was for me. So, armed  with a Master’s Degree (directing) from Chicago’s College of the Performing Arts at Roosevelt University, I set forth into this crazy biz we call “show.” I’ve gone to many places and in many different directions, but I don’t regret a single minute of this crazy life. I’ve been blessed to be able to explore my talents in a variety of areas and I’ll do just about anything. Well, almost.

As a Theatre Actor…

I’ve been very lucky to have had a number of temporary artistic homes over the years, including The Shakespearean Theatre of Maine: The Theater at Monmouth  Florida's Seaside Repertory Theatre , and Virginia's Wayside Theatre. In DC, I performed on a number of stages including that of The Keegan Theatre (Helen Hayes Award Nomination for Outstanding Ensemble as a member of the cast of the American premiere of Alone It Stands), Journeymen Theatre Ensemble, The Smithsonian Institution, and as a part of The Kennedy Center's 2006 Page to Stage Festival (world premiere with Trumpet Vine Theatre of Whole Against the Sky). In the Seattle area, I’ve tread the boards at Taproot Theatre, SecondStory Rep (BroadwayWorld.com Award nominated Salieri in Amadeus), Harlequin Productions and Seattle Shakespeare Company, to mention just a few.

As an On-Camera Actor…

Projects have included the Emmy nominated Countdown to Ground ZeroStolen Thunder (History Channel), the Glass Forest Entertainment produced TV pilot, untethered, 2 national commercials, and numerous regional commercials, industrials and voice over projects.

As a Designer…

My Scenic Design & painting have been seen at the Seattle Public Theatre, Imagination Stage, Roundhouse Theatre, Woolly Mammoth Theatre, Folger Shakespeare Theatre, Kennedy Center, Trumpet Vine Theatre, Wayside Theatre, Centerstage and Theatre22.

As a Writer…

My screenplay, In the Shadow of the Mind, was named as a quarterfinalist in the 2017 Academy Nicholl Fellowship in Screenwriting competition. I’ve also optioned a screenplay. Two of my short plays, West Side Medea and Return to ‘79, were produced by The Renegade Theatre’s East Side Comedy Shop as part of a showcase for a proposed PBS television series. Yeah, Big Bird and I could have been best buds. Oh, what could have been. Subsequently, West Side Medea was produced at Maine’s The Theater at Monmouth as part of the Black Fly Follies. I’ve co-written a series of national commercials for Propaganda Communications and was the recipient of the Richard C. Green Chair, a multi-year playwriting grant. The work from this grant was workshopped with Jeff Church, Artistic Director of Kansas City’s The Coterie Theatre. I also taught playwriting for The Speech and Theatre Association of Missouri and as an instructor at Kansas City’s The Pembroke Hill School. Currently, I’m concentrating on screenwriting and my scripts have gotten some interest from Hollywood.

As a Dialect Coach…

I’ve spent many years teaching myself dialects and have served as a dialect coach for such companies as Seattle's Book-It Repertory Theatre, Maine's The Theatre at Monmouth, the Smithsonian, Washington DC's the Keegan Theatre, and Virginia's Wayside Theatre. I’ve become proficient in a number of dialects over the years. Pick one. I might just be able to do it. Maybe. Unless you pick something really crazy.

As a Director…

I’ve directed over 50 theatre productions, both professional and academic, over the years, including several of my own works and I’ve dabbled in commercial directing as co-director of 3 national spots. I also received a grant from the Johnson County (KS) Arts and Humanities Association to explore the development and direction of new works. I recently directed The Lisbon Traviata for Theatre22, which The Seattle Times named as one of “5 Plays You Need to See in Seattle.”
